split-capital investment trust
= split-level trust; split trust
An investment trust with a limited life in which the equity capital is divided into various classes of income shares and capital shares. Holders of income shares receive all or most of the income earned plus a predetermined capital value on liquidation. Holders of capital shares receive little or no income but are entitled to all of the assets remaining after repayment of the income shares.
